“Someone believed in me when my future felt closed. That changed everything.”

Nancy grew up in a humble home where paying for school was a daily struggle her family simply could not meet. Though she was bright and determined, her future felt uncertain. When GAF learned about her story, they saw promise instead of life’s challenges. GAF stepped into her life and opened a door she once believed was closed.

With steady support from GAF, Nancy completed high school and earned the opportunity to pursue higher education, something she had never imagined possible. With continued mentorship and sponsorship, she enrolled at Kisii University, where she pursued a Bachelor of Education (Science) degree.

Today, Nancy stands proudly as a university graduate, becoming the first in her family to earn a university degree. She often reflects that without GAF, her academic journey would have ended long before graduation. Instead, she now stands as a testament to the power of opportunity and the lasting impact of sponsorship.

Nancy’s story is a testament to what becomes possible when someone is given the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.

Jason

From Orphanage to Nursing Graduate

“I was once the one in need of care. Now I’m ready to give the care I desperately needed but never had the privilege of enjoying.”

Jason’s early childhood was marked by loss and uncertainty. After losing his mother at a young age, he remained under his father’s care, until one day, his father disappeared, leaving Jason and siblings without support or stability.

His grandmother with the help of other concerned relatives stepped in and took him to an orphanage, where he spent the formative years of his childhood navigating life without family.

His turning point came through a simple but powerful connection. A primary school teacher, moved by Jason’s resilience and story, reached out to the G. Abaya Foundation. After learning about his circumstances, the foundation stepped in and committed to walking with him long-term.

From primary school through secondary education and into university, the foundation provided consistent support, covering school needs, mentorship, and essential resources.

Jason carried that support with quiet determination. In 2025, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kibabii University, a remarkable milestone that reflects years of perseverance and belief from those who stood by him.

He is currently awaiting internship placement, preparing to begin a career dedicated to caring for others, a full-circle journey shaped by compassion.

Johnson

From Casual Labor to University Bound

Johnson grew up in a deeply challenging environment. His father struggled with alcoholism, leaving his mother, a casual laborer, to carry the burden of providing for the family alone.

Despite the hardship, Johnson completed primary school successfully. But without funds for secondary education, he was forced to abandon his dreams and join his mother in casual work just to survive.

His turning point came when the G. Abaya Foundation encountered his story through ministry work in his local church. Moved by his resilience, the foundation stepped in and sponsored his secondary education.

Johnson completed high school in 2025 and is now awaiting university placement, a future that once felt impossible.

Chloe

From Hardship to University Bound

Chloe lost her father at just three years old, leaving her family without a provider. Over time, her mother struggled and became unable to offer stable support, struggling with alcoholism, forcing Chloe to live with her grandmother.

She excelled in primary school, but like many vulnerable children, she faced a harsh reality, no funds meant no secondary education.

The foundation learned about Chloe during community ministry outreach. Recognizing her potential, they stepped in and fully supported her through secondary school.

She completed her exams in 2025 and is now preparing for university entry, carrying a renewed sense of purpose.

Charity

From Hardship to University Bound

Charity’s father passed away before she was even born, leaving her mother to raise five children alone. By the time Charity reached school age, her mother’s strength and resources were stretched thin.

Though she performed well in primary school, continuing education was no longer an option.

The G. Abaya Foundation discovered her case and stepped in to support her secondary education. With consistent sponsorship and encouragement, Charity completed her exams in 2025 and performed impressively.

She is now awaiting university placement, proof that support can rewrite destinies.

Mercyline

From Near Dropout to Form 3

Born after her parents separated, Mercyline was raised by a single mother struggling to provide for five children through casual labor.

Despite excelling in primary school, her dreams nearly ended there due to lack of school fees.

During community outreach, the foundation identified her need and stepped in to support her education. Today, Mercyline is in Form 3 and steadily progressing toward completing secondary school.

Her journey reflects the power of timely intervention.

Daniel

From Tea Picker to Medical Aspirant

Daniel dreams of becoming a doctor, a dream born from resilience. After his father abandoned the family, his mother was left working as a tea picker in a plantation, struggling to survive.

Daniel performed well in primary school but was forced to join his mother in tea picking because secondary school was unaffordable.

Local authorities, including the chief and sub-chief, intervened and connected him to the foundation. Recognizing his brilliance, the foundation took him in and sponsored his education.

Now in Form 3 and performing exceptionally well, Daniel continues to pursue his dream of studying medicine.

Nash & Latifa

Siblings Reunited Through Hope

Nash Orua and Latifa Atieno are siblings of Jason. Like their brother, they spent part of their childhood in an orphanage, facing an uncertain future.

After their father resurfaced without the means to support them and their elderly grandmother became too weak to help, their hopes of continuing education faded.

Because the foundation had already supported Jason successfully, they extended their care to Nash and Latifa, helping reunite the siblings and restore hope.

Today, both are in secondary school (Form 3), working hard and aspiring to one day help other vulnerable children.

Emmaculate

From Neglect to a Dream of Medicine

After losing her mother, Emmaculate was left under the care of an irresponsible father who struggled with alcoholism. Though she was a bright student, she frequently missed school due to neglect.

A compassionate teacher stepped in and became her guardian, providing stability and care. However, recognizing the need for long-term support, the teacher connected her to the foundation.

Today, the foundation sponsors her education while her guardian continues to provide daily care and mentorship.

Now in senior secondary school, Emmaculate is nurturing a dream of becoming a medical doctor, inspired by the compassion she received.

Susan

From Instability to Academic Excellence

Susan’s childhood was shaped by instability. Her father, who was mentally challenged, wandered away from home, leaving her mother to care for five children alone. With limited means, most of her siblings dropped out of school.

Susan managed to complete primary school with strong results but could not proceed further due to financial constraints.

The foundation encountered her through a local pastor and immediately recognized her potential. She was enrolled into secondary school under their sponsorship.

Now in her final year, Susan continues to excel academically, and there is strong hope for a bright future ahead.

Ruth

From Displacement to Academic Resilience

After the death of her father, Ruth’s life took a painful turn. Her mother was chased away from their matrimonial home by relatives and now survives as a squatter, working as a casual laborer.

Despite the instability, Ruth remained a bright and determined student. But after primary school, her education stalled due to financial hardship.

A well-wisher connected her to the foundation, which stepped in to sponsor her schooling. Today, Ruth is in Form 3 and continuing to thrive academically.

Tracy

From Abandonment to Academic Progress

Tracy’s life has been shaped by extraordinary hardship. Her mother, who is mentally challenged, disappeared, and her father’s whereabouts remain unknown. She was left under the care of her elderly grandmother, who struggles to provide even basic needs.

A concerned friend helped bring her case to a local church, which later connected her to the foundation.

Since then, the foundation has supported Tracy’s education. Now in Form 3, she continues to push forward despite the odds stacked against her.

Lavine

From Hopelessness to a Future Renewed

The story of Lavine is one of hope restored. Coming from a very humble background, a polygamous family, her mother died when she was a toddler and her father passed away when she was just five years old. Being the lastborn, she has been brought up by her older siblings.

After Grade 9, going to Grade 10 became impossible as her older sibling was no longer able to pay her school fees. With finances stretched and Lavine’s education not a priority, she stayed home without hope of ever realizing her dreams, watching her friends go on to school.

A neighbor who knew about the foundation reached out with her story, and by God’s grace, Lavine is now back in school, full of hope and ready to face the future.
